About Us
North Hertfordshire Museum aims to increase the understanding and enjoyment of the culture, heritage and environment of North Hertfordshire, using the museum collections to tell the stories of the people who have lived and worked here. Our vision is to create a welcoming museum that plays an active role in the life of the District.
We do this through:
- Permanent museum displays
- Temporary exhibitions
- Events and activities for all ages
- Outreach work throughout the District
- Community archaeology
- Education work and Loans Scheme
- The Local Studies Centre
- Support for other local museums and cultural activities
North Hertfordshire Museum has four galleries:
- explore the Discovering North Hertfordshire Gallery, which deals with the history of the district from geological times to the present day;
- see changing exhibitions of art in the Exhibition Gallery;
- discover how people’s lives have changed over thousands of years in the Living in North Hertfordshire Gallery;
- see the football collection, objects from all around the world, items from our art collections and animations of local folklore tales in the Terrace Gallery;
- view art exhibitions in the Arches Gallery, part of the Terrace Gallery.
We have a shop where you can buy gifts and local souvenirs, and a café serving a variety of food, and hot and cold drinks. Admission is free.
